Jake Broe, a YouTuber known for producing insightful and well-researched content, seems to be falling into the same trap he often criticizes others for: spreading misinformation and conspiracy theories. In his most recent video, “North Koreans Arrive in Ukraine to Fight for Russia,” Broe theorized some dubious ideas that seem detached from logic.
One of his claims was that Russia and North Korea would attack a U.S. military base before the 2024 election to help Trump win. Even more astonishingly, he suggested that Trump wouldn’t do anything in response, arguing that Trump would never attack Russia and that he would use the situation to present himself as the only one who could prevent World War III. But this doesn’t hold up to basic scrutiny. If such an attack occurred, Biden and Kamala Harris would still be in power until January 20, 2025, when the next president is sworn in. The idea that Trump could influence the U.S. response to an attack while he’s not yet in office is simply unrealistic. In such a scenario, it would be Biden’s responsibility to act accordingly, not Trump’s.
What’s more troubling is that Broe’s dislike for Trump is clouding his judgment and damaging his otherwise solid reputation. By pushing these conspiracy-laden narratives, he’s alienating people who support Ukraine but don’t necessarily share his extreme views on Trump.
In another video, Broe claimed that Iran was helping Russia in Ukraine in order to boost Trump’s chances in the 2024 election. That argument also makes little sense. Iran is well aware that if Trump were to win, their situation would likely worsen. So, why would Iran help Trump? While Iran’s reasons for assisting Russia might be complex, it’s highly improbable that they are doing so to influence U.S. elections in Trump’s favor.
Unfortunately, many otherwise smart people let their feelings override reason, leading them to present flawed arguments. And when feelings overshadow logic, even the most talented individuals become less trustworthy.
